Real Estate Outlook: Buyers Getting Message

Continuing declines in mortgage rates and signs of home price pick-ups dominate this week's economic outlook for real estate. Fixed-rate thirty year mortgages averaged slightly over 5 percent last week, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. Fifteen year rates averaged 4.6 percent. Both numbers are close to all time lows, and are buyers are getting the message.

The National Association of Home Builders is reporting that Nationwide housing starts and permits posted substantial gains in June as home builders responded to improved market conditions and the impending expiration of the first-time buyer tax credit.
